Dr Eduardo Lamas

Eduardo Lamas is researcher at the unit Art Historical Research and Inventory at KIK-IRPA in Brussels. He completed his university studies at Université Paris-Sorbonne and obtained his doctorate at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Since 2025, he is also a scientific collaborator at sociAMM: Research Centre on Ancient, Medieval & Early Modern Culture at the ULB. He specializes on the artistic relations between the Southern Netherlands and Iberia (1500-1700), the inventorization of the Belgian artistic heritage and the study of the artistic production in Spain. His areas of specialization concern, on the one hand, Netherlandish artistic presence in the Iberian Peninsula, in particular sixteenth-century Flemish sculptors and seventeenth-century Flemish painters in present-day Spain, with a special focus on patronage. On the other, painting and drawing produced in Spain in the 17th century, with a special focus on cross-media collaborations between painting, sculpture and architecture. This dual perspective—encompassing both the influence of Flemish artists in the Peninsula and local creative dynamics—offers a comprehensive understanding of the artistic activity of Flemish masters in Spain, as well as their legacy within the Iberian context.
He contributes regularly to international journals, exhibition catalogues and collective books on these subjects. He is co-editor of the book Copies of Flemish Masters in the Hispanic World: 1500-1700 (Turnhout, 2021). He is member of the Royal Academy of Archeology and History of Art of Belgium and the Belgian Committee of the History of Art.
