Dr Marta I. Sánchez Vasco

Marta I. Sánchez Vasco is a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Art History and Theory at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She holds a PhD with international distinction in Art History from UNED (2024), with a dissertation focused on the figure of the Spanish ambassadress in the Early Modern period and her role in cultural mediation within the context of the Habsburg monarchy.
Her research focuses on artistic and cultural circulation in Europe between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, with particular attention to the role played by women in processes of exchange, as well as to the relationship between diplomacy, court ceremonial, sociability and material culture.
She holds degrees in Art History, History, and Journalism, as well as master’s degrees in Advanced Studies in Museums and Cultural Heritage and in the Appraisal of Antiques. She undertook training periods in the Department of Prints and Drawings of the Biblioteca Nacional de España and in the Education and Conservation Department of the Museo Lázaro Galdiano. She has also worked in the Cultural Area of Fundación MAPFRE, in the Old Master Paintings Department (12th–19th centuries) at the Fernando Durán auction house, and in the Research Department of the Instituto Moll.
Within the framework of her collaboration with this institution, she participates in research projects related to the study of Flemish and Netherlandish artists in the Hispanic context, contributing to the understanding of their dynamics of production, circulation, and reception.
